Sailors have a particular set of colourful flags that they use to signals certain information. This painting reminded me of those flags.
And then I got to thinking about symbols and signals. Maybe we all have a code of symbols that we use to communicate with. What colour do you wear when you’re happy? It’s a signal. What look do you give when you disapprove of someone’s actions? Another signal.. From earliest history humans and perhaps non humans have used signals to communicate information.
